EXTENSION
As
the team walked to the entrance, a loud metallic clang was clearly heard, as if something had fallen to the wooden floor.
No-one was in there and despite searching the floor nothing was found.
Again,
as we were waking around the tables to be seated, we all heard a sound like card or menu fall to the floor – searched
the floor – nothing there.
Encouraged
by these sound anomalies, we immediately began a short séance using a planchette as the focal point for our energy.
Almost
at once there was some slight movement of the planchette (the wheels turned in the castors but the planchette remained stationary)
then Rachel reported a female presence who presented as a child of around 11 years of age, but had lived a life to adulthood,
she just liked to come back and re-live her childhood memories of this place in this form.
She
held a conversation with Rachel, and introduced herself as Harriett Springett (although the surname was given later in the
conversation) and told us she and her much younger sister “Ella” used to play on this spot outdoors when she was
a child. She had a slight speech impediment. She said she had a special bond with Ella despite having other siblings. Her
dress placed her in the mid to late 19th century. As she gave her name John reported a bright flashing orb on camera. Rachel
felt there was at least 9 or 10 year age gap between the two sisters.
During
the séance, the Planchette moved slightly, and the chair next to Rachel moved quickly and with some force at one point when
Harriett was felt to be there. We all heard a loud bang a short distance directly behind John who was standing in the entrance
to the extension filming and a small pool of orange light was visible. No street lights were shining in nor any other light sources found to cause
it. John returned to the extension area later in the evening and reported seeing more orbs on the infra red cam, which unfortunately
didn't translate clearly enough when we uploaded the DVD footage to the pc as there is always a loss in picture quality.
BAR AREA
As
we walked into the main bar from the extension, Rachel felt that the spirit of a small girl had just left the area and had
been the one to make the sound behind John earlier.
No
other anomalies occurred in this area until around half an hour later when the investigation had moved to the other end of
the pub. Several members of the team saw shadows in the bar area move, and when Rachel focused on them she saw a tall, heavy
set cloaked man pacing around from the bar entrance (the original inn entry point) and looking for man he intended to assault.
At
the same moment John saw a
bright flashing orb.
RESTAURANT
We
moved on from the main bar to the centre of the pub, which is the main restaurant area and open stair access to the private
quarters.
There
is an old external door in front of the stairway, and to the left of the stairs is an old fireplace, where Rachel was stopped
in her tracks by the residual impression of a very weary man named Abraham coming in from working in the fields at the end
of a day and sitting in a wooden chair with arms in front of the fire. He was a happy man, just very tired!
Rachel
also felt that the local “regulars” of the inn at the time had a healthy respect for him and would greet his as
“Abrum” when they came in for a pint!
It
felt to Rachel that he was a man of the Victorian era, and that he had the name Mary connected to him in a positive way.
RESTAURANT/FORMER CHAPEL OF REST AREA
Lots
happening here! By far the most active area.
This
area was divided in two open sections by the original wooden beam stud work.
Rachel
felt that the first section immediately to the right of the stairs was a former waiting room for the chapel of rest and it
felt like a cold and “unloved” space, with residual energy of people weeping quietly.
The
residual energy of a busy body lady gossip who was associated with the place when it was a shop was felt here too!
We
moved into the space where the former chapel of rest was, and wherever Rachel sat she felt like she was sitting in someone’s
coffin, and could see how the coffin would be laid out!
It
was a small space and with the three of us there it was apparent there would have only been room for the coffin laid out with
the head end near the window, coffin parallel with and in front of the old fireplace.
She
jumped when she was sitting at a table and a close up residual impression occurred of someone’s face inches from hers
laid out in his coffin!
Rachel
felt this area was “busy” with lots of spirits popping in and out, a black wisp spotted by the white door to the
rear of the property and a smell of sulphur that no-one else could smell, although later Clive could briefly smell carbolic
soap!
Another
strange anomaly.. we captured EVP on video in this same area that was unheard by any member of the team on the night, the
sound of a high pitched female voice either humming or moaning. It can be clearly heard in the background of our conversation,
and yet Rachel and at least one other team member did hear a much fainter breath sound just seconds later! Play
the video clip to hear it.
Then
we had a first for us as a team. We began to receive communication in taps from a friendly entity named William.
It
began with a loud thump from a table as John and Steve stood in front of it. They were not touching or leaning against it,
nor was anyone else near to it.
A
clear knock sound followed, heard by Steve, John and Rachel, but none of us could agree on the same source of the sound, it
seemed to be from a different direction depending on who heard it.
A
succession of faint knocks followed as we sat quietly, some single, some multiple. So we decided to ask some questions!
We
have placed the video clip of the conversation in its entirety on this page - its around 20 minutes long, and the audio quality
is low, as only our static cam picked up the sounds. However you can make out the taps if you crank the volume up and
wear headphones.
We
asked for two knocks for yes, one for no. We got intelligent responses every time, with William often pre-empting us and answering
the questions before we’d finished speaking!
We
ascertained he was male, had lived there in the 1800s, he was a landlord and his name was William, and didn’t want us
to go home yet!
We
asked him if he could knock, then could he be so kind as to move some cutlery for us on a table we chose? No cutlery moved
but a loud bang came from the table we chose!
John
asked William to move a specific chair – and although the chair didn’t move John did observe on video camera that
an orb moved past the chair.
HISTORICAL INFO, RESEARCH AND VALIDATIONS:
The
current landlord at the time of our investigation confirmed that the inn used to be 3 separate houses, and that the middle
part was a cottage and the far end was a chapel of rest and a shop at different times in its history. All 3 were knocked through
into one open space in its modern day use.
Our
later research found much to verify the communications and residual impressions felt by Rachel our medium.
We
found that there was a Thomas… Thomas Dyson listed as landlord of the pub in 1882 to 1890 according to the Kelly’s
directory.
The
Springett family were residing in the pub at the time of the 1861 census. The census shows Harriett and Ellen Springett were
8 years apart in age, with Harriet being the eldest at age 12. They had at least one other baby sibling at the time.
A
man named Abraham Lay was listed as the landlord and a farmer in the 1890s according to later census records and the Kelly’s
record of publicans in 1890.
No
record has been found yet of “Ted” or “William” the landlord, as public record regarding landlords
does not go back far enough into that century…but we’re still on the case.
We
found a link here to a genealogy page referring to a will written in 1818, mentioning a William Archer “shopkeeper” of Inworth
but we do not know which time period the far end of the inn was a shop or if indeed this would have been the right shop
as there may have been more than one shop in Inworth at that time!
